Well, can’t say that I expected to see Liquids up on the Jimmy again so soon.

Yep, as of this morning, the Liquids’ new EP has been completely released to the public (not to be mistaken with the two-track teaser that went up on the group’s Bandcamp page a couple weeks prior), with the physical wheel o’ wax also being available for pre-order from Yeah You! Records right now. The link to buy it is down below; it’ll cost you about nine USD—that doesn’t include the hefty expenses to ship your precious (euphemism for “inevitably worthless”) vinyl overseas since the label is actually based in Brazil—and is set to be shipped to all you snot-brains in October. I figured that I’d just get that physical-release-information out of the way first, since it seems that the majority of you guys are just in on this to beef up your personal music collection. What, you actually LISTEN to your vinyl? What’re you, insane? That hurts the re-sell value. Just take a page out of my book; put them in plastic sleeves and leave them in your closet to stare at while you contemplate all the money you’ve wasted by choosing to start a vinyl collection.

Smarmy bitching aside, I’m still really damn stoked that this EP has come out so soon—er, maybe not, since these days I’m still struggling to make sure that I’ve got some money for food, let alone 25 bucks so I can buy a single vinyl--but it’s not like it matters, I’ll just have to find another vinyl to play ultimate frisbee with. In the meantime, we’ve still got the complete EP available for listen and download online; which, as we all know, may be the superior listening platform, but unlike vinyl, it isn’t capable of being thrown in a game of ultimate frisbee, so who cares? But I guess beggars can’t be choosers, so I’ll take it. The Liquids’ Bandcamp page originally stated that this EP was slated for a December release, so I wasn’t expecting to hear a lick of this for at least a few more months. But thanks to a nice fellow over in Brazil—who I’m not sure if I’m at the liberty of referring to by name—I was informed of this EP’s imminent release ahead of time, after being teased with an image that displayed the seven-incher’s cover prior to being glued together (which includes the lyrics, by the way!). That same guy, who first brought up his involvement in the EP’s production when he told me that he sent the EP’s master to the press factory back in June, shot me an email earlier this morning to let me know that this six-track 7” is finally available for listen and purchase. Now it’s time for me to be a good messenger boy and let you know that both Mat and these Brazil punks are ready to take your money. Well, also ready to burrow these sugar-sweet rock ‘n’ roll melodies directly into your earholes, but let’s be honest, they’re mostly ready to take your money.

I definitely don’t need to be the guy to tell you that this EP rules, and DEFINITELY not the guy to remind you about how fucking phenomenal the Liquids are. Six more garagey hearthrobbers from these NWI rockers, whom of which recently had their line-up revised: instead of their previous Mat Williams/Mark Winter/Antonio Holguin/Clay Fritz line-up, we now have Mat Williams/Brandon Stringer/Clay Fritz. Not that it matters much here, since, like every other Liquids release, the material was written and recorded by Mat himself. I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that this guy really knows what he’s doing; and yes, that is taking the EP’s lo-fi nature into account, which seemed so muddled to me that I sometimes had trouble telling if the material was being backed by a drum machine or not. It’s a humbling aesthetic that I really appreciate though, I wouldn’t doubt that this was recorded in some Indianan basement somewhere.
