It was also there that Karl joined the legendary Fred Wesley's band. In the early 1990's, he hooked up with DJ Greyboy and formed Greyboy Records and the Greyboy Allstars. This unit was responsible for creating the whole "jam band" resurgence for groups like the Brand New Heavies, Groove Collective, Soulive, and Medeski, Martin, and Wood.

The Grayboy Allstars has a soul-jazz meets old school funk flavor mix. KD3: The Karl Denson Trio, goes back to his traditional roots in jazz while exploring and expanding his scope and a musician.
