Brooklyn based trumpet virtuoso and composer Jonathan Powell and his group nu Sangha present a passionate sonic performance dedicated to the inspirational minds of great men and women on this sophomore release Beacons of Light. Powell's original compositions are a tribute to the likes of Sufi mystic and poet Rumi, Tibetan spiritual leader The Dalai Lama, the Christian mystic Stylianos Atteshlis and civil rights hero Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to name a few. Musically, Jonathan Powell & nu Sangha draw from influences as varied as classic Coltrane, Balkan brass music, Electronica icon Squarepusher and the contemporary Jazz comfort sounds of Brian Blade and Pat Metheny.

Nu Sangha includes; brother Jeremy Powell on tenor saxophone and soprano saxophone (has appeared with Larry Coryell, Jeff Berlin), Marko Churnchetz on acoustic piano and Fender Rhodes (Mark Shim, Justin Brown), Luques Curtis on acoustic bass (Eddie Palmieri, Sean Jones), Kenny Grohowski on drums (John Zorn, Andy Milne), as well as special guests John Ellis on bass clarinet (Helen Sung, Charlie Hunter, Dr Lonnie Smith), Louis Fouché on alto saxophone (Christian Scott, Eddie Palmieri), and Joe Beaty on trombone (Bobby Sanabria, Jason Lindner).
