The Grannies "Soviet" (official) - Video
PUBLISHED:  May 01, 2015
DESCRIPTION:
"Soviet" is the second video from The Grannies 2015 release "Ballsier", produced by Jack Endino.(Saustex Records cat # SEX1501). The video was shot in the band's rehearsal space and is spiced liberally with footage from Dziga Vertov's classic "Man With A Movie Camera" and other public domain items. Lyricist and lead singer Wizard Sleeves had this commentary about the song: In 1994 we went on a trip from Germany to Russia in the company of 223 other punks and deviants. We traveled on trains, ferries, busses and spaceships and most of us showed up in an altered state to begin with. We were attacked by homicidal Finns in a sauna who tried to kill our ravaged bodies by steaming up the heater like in an early James Bond movie but were saved by other, nicer Finns who realized that we had cheap booze and party favors that cannot be denied by any Scandinavian soul.
We were attacked by killer bees at the Russian borders who would only sting your hands so they would swell up until they wouldn't fit in a jeans front pocket anymore which is a death sentence for any deviant all over the world. Upon arrival in Saint Petersburg we were subjected to the famine that has haunted the tundra people for generations and were left to only drink Black Death vodka for 10 days straight without any digestible food or nutrition. Madness set in. The mental scurvy began to take its toll when we were taken to a squatted city block where people rode dirt bikes through the hallways and under the tapestry of schizoid old Russian porn collages on the walls and ceilings were forced to perform for mafiosos whose favorite pastime seemed to be to make skinny little teenagers bleed out of their ears. In the middle of the fistfight which erupted during our "performance" we were lectured about the true meaning of SOVIET, a concept so difficult you had to endure serious gulag time and the forceful removal of major body parts to even begin to comprehend. The trip came to a close with a bout of arm wrestling against a 7ft. tall Russian He-Man who was trying to inject himself with black tar while providing the laws of gravity obsolete. If we could remember how we made it out of there we wouldn't have been there and the whole memory hurts like a concussion from a 350ft cliff dive.
Yes, he was a soviet.
