Chimney-soot sigh whistles home the wavering soundtrack of reprise. Beaten cardboard flesh for photos, notes-to-self. A sagging shelf. Dusty sweater, held together by a thread. Not tired yet. Too key for the plot to forget. Tense and past-tense. Yeah, remember when remembering wasn't so important and depressing? Dress the furniture with sheets; ghostly sheaths for the weak, held together by a thread. Not dead yet, but never quite alive. Metred half-time. Slumping in slow-motion, frame-by-frame, and then sleeping so soundly, warmly, in the bed. I missed so much searching for what it was. But the missing will fade with me when it's gone.
