Harmonica Basics XXXII - How to play the Harmonica Blues "Train" - Video
PUBLISHED:  Sep 08, 2013
DESCRIPTION:
Hi, my name is Luke Clebsch. Thank you for watching another one of my free harmonica lessons on "The Train" entitled, "Harmonica Basics 32 How to play the Harmonica Blues 'Train'" I'm playing a C harp for this tutorial.

Here are the blues harmonica tabs:

The initial train whistle is drawing on holes 4,5 (and 6 if you want) And then bending them down (to imitate the dropping pitch of the whistle as the train passes because of a physical principle of sound known as the Doppler effect.)

1.) Inhale on 1,2 (and 3 if you want to) saying "Ta-ka-ta" and then breath out. You can experiment with moving the harmonicas more to the left or right while you do this breathing pattern.

2.) Add Octaves. If you haven't learned the technique to do octaves, check out Harmonica Basics 16 - Learn to play harmonica: Octaves
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cAJDjBKLTSg
Breathe in and out on the first few holes, and then do draw blow on octave of 1-4.

3.) Add 2(W)- 2- released between the "Takata-exhale."

4.) Add trills between 3-4 draw, 4-5 blow, 4-5 draw, 4-5 blow

5.) 3- (slide down to) 1-, 1+, 2- (then in-out-in on bottom few holes)

6.) Same as the last one but 4- slide to 2-, 3+, 3- (then in-out-in on bottom few holes)

Finally, I'll give you the harmonica tabs in c for the outro lick that I teach at the end. If you haven't learned how to play the harmonica blow bends yet, please refer to my Harmonica Basic videos 26, 27, and 28.
Starting here "Harmonica Basics XXVI - Harmonica Lessons Intro to Blow Bends" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCrjA1MxncM

Here's the harmonica tabs in c for the outro lick:

9+, 9+ 9- 9+ 9-, 8+ 9+ 8+, 8+(h) 9+ 8+(h), 8-(slide to the right)

Then the octave 3+ and 6+, and 2- and 5- (which is the root and 7th of the tonic chord.)
