Bizet: Symphony in C - 'Adagio' - Robert Bloom, oboe; Stokowski conducts - Video
PUBLISHED:  Dec 17, 2012
DESCRIPTION:
In 1952, Stokowski recorded the Bizet Symphony in C with a hand-picked ensemble of top New York instrumentalists and front-desk orchestral players. This music was being played at the time for the Balanchine ballet 'Symphony in C' by the New York City Ballet. Stokowski's recording was widely acclaimed, even though he had never conducted the work before. The 'Adagio' movement heard here is notable for the long quasi-oriental oboe solo, beautifully played by one of America's most distinguished oboists, Robert Bloom.
