Universal Audio teams up with engineer John Nowland and Neil Young's original UA 610 Console for a live tracking session.

John Nowland is a longtime, accomplished veteran of the music industry dating back to the mid 1960’s. He has worked with artists such as Crosby, Stills and Nash, Emmylou Harris, and has been heavily involved with Neil Young’s lasting career.

For this session, John brought Neil Young’s original UA 610 console to UA headquarters and recorded Universal Audio employees performing Miles Davis’ "All Blues.”

Watch the session unfold as they tweak the 610’s buttons and knobs, and show what is happening under its hood. Hear the 610’s history and see a handful of historic documents attached to Bill Putnam and the original UA 610 Console as well. In addition to tracking on the 610, note that the men's room was used as an echo chamber, a vintage Cooper Time Cube was used for pre-delay, and a 176 (predecessor to the 1176) was patched to the kick drum.
