Big Beat Dance: Retro Futuristic DJ Mash Ups with Four Innovative Drummers

Saxapahaw, NC -- On September 28th from 9pm-12am Apple Juice Kid will kick off the inaugural Big Beat Dance (BBD) party at The Haw River Ballroom, 1711 Saxapahaw Bethlehem Church Road, Saxapahaw NC 27340 . BBD is not your typical dance party; it's an innovative musical journey complete with Apple Juice Kid Dj'ing retro futuristic tribal electronic mash ups featuring four innovative drummers, and Carlitta Durand as a guest vocalist. This is a certified Art of Cool Project event, so expect a quality, innovative sold out concert.

This seminal event will feature Apple Juice Kid (DJ), Beverly Botsford (Percussion- Nnenna Freelon), Atiba Rorie (Djembe-ADF), Scott Crews (Drumset- hoopdrum) and Larry Q Draughn (Drumset- Joey Calderazzo). The featured guest vocalist is Carlitta Durand, who has performed and recorded with Little Brother, 9th Wonder and The Beast.

Apple Juice Kid is a producer, drummer and DJ who has created singles for Wale, MC Lyte, Camp Lo and Mos Def. He is a winner of 8 beat battles, collaborated with Mark Ronson and Jerry Wonda (The Fugees) and most recently came back from Africa this summer creating a Beat Making Lab in the Congo with Pierce Freelon of the Beast (who will also be a guest vocalist during the night).

The Art of Cool Project (TheArtofCoolProject.com) is a jazz advocacy project dedicated to promoting the local vibrant, varied and surprisingly under-appreciated jazz scene. The live jazz performances showcase and stimulate the forward-focused creative thought that is occurring on the local jazz scene. The Haw River Ballroom (HawRiverBallroom.com) is a beautiful space with three levels, a riverside deck, a concessions bar and coffee shop, a full stage and sound system, gorgeous historic detail, just minutes from Chapel Hill.
