Hailing from none other than the Garden State, J-NE$$ proves to be one of the hottest up and coming artists from New Jersey. His distinctive voice and creative lyrics define him to be more than just your average mc. He was born in Plainfield New Jersey, and moved to Piscataway at the age of 9, where he discovered his talent. Growing up with a single mother and no brothers and sisters, hip hop became more than a trend; it was a way of life. He started out battling his peers in middle school, and reciting rhymes he had wrote in ciphers everywhere he would go. Before actually recording in a studio, he made cassette tapes on his radio, and sometimes him and his boys would get together and record on a karaoke machine. Being that he’s from Piscataway a lot of other rappers from other parts of New Jersey would under mind his lyrical ability. But, the minute the crowd would hear his voice and undeniable flow, all opinions soon would change in an instant. By the time he was a sophomore in high school, he hooked up with a producer named A.K.I.N.G. and the rest was history. As soon as he started recording in A.K.I.N.G.’S studio his style began to develop and became better every time he stepped to the microphone. He recorded his first mix tape in 2006 titled: “J-NE$$-WE HAVE A PROBLEM JERSEY”. Since then he has recorded 3 other mix tapes as well titled: “A LIL SUMTHING FOR THE BLOCK”, “THE 07 MICROPHONE FIEND”, and his latest mix tape to date, “THE VIRTUOSO”, which was hosted by DJ CHAPLIN. J-NE$$ also has features wit many fellow artists from New Jersey such as: Gauge, Cellz Grammz, Trav the Assassin, Nellz, Storm Teller, ADAS, and many more. He has also done collaborations with Murda Mook, and Tom Gist as well. He represents a movement called “N.E.C.” which stands for NEW EAST COAST. The purpose of this name is not to downplay any other area of the U.S. (West coast, down south, Midwest), but to uplift a new generation of mc’s from the east coast. His main influences as an artist are: Notorious B.I.G., Stack Bundles, Jay-z, Nas, Styles P, Jadakiss, 50 cent, and Young Jeezy, but still manage to keep his own identity as a mc. As of right now he is an unsigned artist with an independent grind, but is striving to make his way to the top slowly but surely. J-NE$$ has also appeared on a few mix tapes courtesy of a few different djs such as: DJ CHAPLIN, DJ BIG TOBACCO, and DJ OPHAX. His main goal is to make sure his music is felt and understood by his listeners, and to make sure his state has a specific home in hip hop (NJ). “New Jersey has been slept on for a long time in the music industry, and I think it is time that they let us in because there is a lot of talent in Jersey, and hungry artists that want their chance to shine, I don’t just rep for my part of Jersey, I’m here to represent for the entire Garden State!” J-NE$$ says. Besides Naughty by Nature, Queen Latifah, Redman, Akon, Joe Budden, and the Fugees, there aren’t that many other artists that have made it into the music industry from New Jersey. J-NE$$ plans to make all of that of change by continuing to stay consistent and maintain a relentless attitude to pursue his dream.
