People often ask me "why RCC for so many years?"

First off, there is no competitive senior corps in southern California, RCC was the closest group to DCA.

I stay with RCC for so many years, started with redemption. I wanted to prove to Wayne Downey I can play, and I can be one of the best in this activity. RCC was the ticket since Wayne is the arranger and caption head. I stop playing my trumpet in 1994 and pick it up again in 1997. By 1998, I was assigned as one of their soloist, the fall back guy. The truth is, this is easy music. Couple high notes here and there can get the crowd going. I dig that.

Even though were in a different activity from DCI, we had a lead trumpet line rivals the Blue Devils and Madison Scouts, and yes... We're all old farts... But this is what RCC is about... When duty calls, were ready to play, no matter how many years our horn is hibernated the case.

After this performance, Wayne Downey ran down to the field give a huge hug and said "Vance, you finally did it." It felt good.
