For years a dynamic performer on the New York music scene, Bill Maier's talents as a songwriter and singer earned him the respect of his musical peers, and rave reviews in local and national publications. Performing Songwriter Magazine said, Maier writes lyrics that touch the heart, and melodies that stay in your head. Newsday's Nightbeat called him a songwriting sharpshooter .one of New York's best kept musical secrets."
Maier and his band, Ten Gallon Fat cut it's teeth playing legendary New York City clubs like Kenny's Castaways, The Bitter End, and the now defunct Crossroads. The band earned it's reputation as one of the top live acts around, appearing in the finals of the Long Island Music Festival, and being selected as one of the Top Ten bands in the NY Tri State area by WCCN radio in Connecticut. Despite their success as a live band, the band only managed to release one full length CD before Maier moved to Nashville to concentrate on his songwriting.
Maiers songwriting reputation is spreading from New York to Nashville and beyond. His song, Little Tin Can, was judged among the top songs in the CMT/Nashville Songwriters Associations Songwriting Contest. A few trips to Music City brought him some new fans, the attention of a few major music publishers, and the opportunity to perform in-the-round with an A-list of Nashville hit writers, including Bob DiPiero, Deborah Allen, Alex Call, and Stewart Harris. With each successive trip to Nashville, Maier became more entrenched in the Nashville music scene, working with music publishers and writing with many talented writers. He decided to make Nashville his home in July 2006.
