On October 5th, 2013, at about 10:30PM, Osmo Vänskä gave his last farewells to his Minnesota audiences and concluded his concert program with Sibelius' "Valse Triste". Vänskä had been forced into resignation earlier in the week by an intransigent Minnesota Orchestral Association board of directors, whose immediate past chairman was quoted as saying even "Osmo may have to leave".

Vänskä delivered these comments after a program of Beethoven, Mozart, and Stravinsky (featuring pianist Emanuel Ax), played to sold-houses. The concerts were arranged by the Musicians of the Minnesota Orchestra and were performed at the University of Minnesota's Ted Mann concert hall.
