In 2011 I attended WMC (Winter Music Conference). It changed my electronic music life. A distinct memory was walking into The National hotel party on the first day after seeing some panels. It was the biggest event we saw that day. Walking in we were greeted by Lambos, Ferarris, and Maseratis in the u-shaped driveway. It was the beginning of a surreal experience.

There were a ton of people in the back by the pool and down in the little sandy bars they had. I remember seeing everyone dancing to a simple tribal beat. It was stupidly simple, but the kick was thumping through this amazing sound system (I want to say it was a Funktion One). Sometimes that's all it rakes. When the breaks happened in the song people were stepping light, and even though the downbeats were dropped out of the track, you could see it in their steps. You could still feel it in the air. 1-2-3-4 1-2-3-4-... When the track reverbed out with a sweeping hi-pass filter followed by a brief pause, you could feel the tension of everyone wanting the kick back.

Finally, the drop happened and hundreds of people cheered as their dancing grew more intense. It was incredible. People dancing all around to amazing sounds. It wasn't about the DJ. The DJ didn't make it about him either. I don't even remember who it was, but he wasn't even the headliner. It was about the music, and the people dancing together. That to me is what house music is all about.

After working on "Dark Tech" I listened to it in the car. It hinted at those tribal elements in the beat. When I came back home I dialed back the cutoff on the TB-3 and the subby bassline just screamed at me. Miami. South Beach. It came out of nowhere. And it reminded me of that experience so much that I had to make this track even though it has the same beat as "Dark Tech".

So here it is. My little piece of Miami memories. "Welcome To Miami".
