About The Acoustic Music Gathering:
The Acoustic Music Gathering is all day Saturday, August 24th at the Meyera E. Oberndorf Central Library. Gathering-goers will want to arrive early and stay late to enjoy the many FREE opportunities. Doors open at 10:30 AM. The day concludes with an evening concert at 5:30 PM.

The gathering ushers in the TFAM season with a one day mini festival celebrating the many faces of Acoustic Music, which has something to please every musical pallet, including genre's of: Blues, Bluegrass, Celtic, Americana, Folk, Old-Time and Singer-Songwriter. The TFAM festival offers a non-stop jam session on the library front lawn and main stage performances in the theatre all day.

Workshops will include lap and hammered dulcimer, guitar, fiddle, banjo, ukelele, mandolin, sea shanties, songwriting, and Celtic music. Celebrating our 5th decade of acoustic music at no cost for the Hampton Roads communities, we will host surprise reunions from some of the best local acoustic bands of the late 70's and early 80's including an evening concert that you will never forget.

Along with the workshops and performances, all guests are welcome to join us in our Marathon Jam Session under the canopy on the library lawn. Remember to bring your instrument, your voice, and your favorite playing chair. Also know that we will operate an "instrument check" area where you may leave your instrument safely while you enjoy other aspects of the TFAM Gathering.

Acoustic music fans across the region are coming to understand that the Acoustic Music Gathering is much more than fantastic acoustic music performances and great workshops; the TFAM Gathering fosters making new friendships and renewing old friendships, all reinforced by the love of music. This year's lineup will reunite some of the area's most beloved bands and pay tribute to those that put the area on the musical map.

The Meyera E. Oberndorf Central Library is a perfect venue for the TFAM Gathering, with comfortable theater seating in the Main Auditorium for the day and evening performances, workshops in the meeting rooms across from the theater, and a third workshop area upstairs in the Children's Story-time Room. Back downstairs, Smart Coffee will be open for the full day's activities, with fresh sandwiches, delicious desserts, and specialty coffees and teas made to order. The library is completely handicap accessible and will have a multitude of opportunities to delight your senses.
