I had the privilege of performing this beautiful hymn many times all over the world as a member of a very active choir under the direction of Ireneusz Lukaszewski. I recall a very special event in 1978 during our concert tour in Greece. We were visiting an ancient monastery on top of a mountain when moved by the energy of this special place our conductor gave us a very discrete signal to sing this particular hymn. We were all dressed in our casual clothing therefore the other tourists visiting this place did not expect this spontaneous performance. Imagine the male section of a forty piece choir bursting into song amidst the ancient stone walls that wrapped around the monastery. The effect was so powerful that it left the unprepared visitors weeping. We were all just as moved.
