Synth.nl - Nachtwacht ( Nightwatch ) - Video

DESCRIPTION:
Put into music the inspiration and comprehension that you have from a painting of a painter from our country, such is the basic idea of "Dutch Masters Vol.1". This rather original concept, and very audacious, germed in the mind of Michel van Osenbruggen (Synth.nl)
The first pearl goes to Synth.nl and his "Nachtwacht". It's surprising to see the progression and maturity this artist who offers here a gorgeous melody which sounds like the best of Vangelis. It starts with a violin synth which sings among bells and hubbubs of a public market. A delicate piano deposits its notes to espouse and replace the violin melody while a discreet sequence emerges to flicker and that a bass line adds more depth. Soon, synth and piano tune their harmonies. But the synth overflows and offers brief nasal solos, while "Nachtwacht" progresses slowly towards a sublime bolero with choirs which hum and a drum rolls and hammers a military march in a delicate ambiance as melodious as melancholic. Michel van Osenbruggen was born in the Netherlands in 1969 and I still lives there. He studied Electronics at school and worked for several years in a company that sold, repaired and installed computers and networks etc. He repaired a lot of Commodore 64's and Amiga 500's in the first few years and later specialized in installing and managing Novell networks. The last years he developed software in Visual Basic for that company. So he became a really all-round engineer. The company still exists but in a smaller form since the owner made his job from his hobby too (helicopter flying).

Since Michel had such a strong interest in electronics he also started to look for another thing to do with electronics besides data communications and that became producing sound. His good friend Jaap introduced him to synthesizer music by Jean-Michel Jarre and Vangelis and he was instantly fascinated by that. So in 1987 Michel started collecting synthesizers and fiddled around with them when he had some spare time which was not a lot. He just tweaked sounds on them and sometimes played a tune, but never recorded anything. He actually has no real musical background.
Finally in October 2005 something bad happened after working way too much and too long. Michel suffered a burnout. He didn't work for about half a year to recover from this and in this period he was advised to find a way to distract himself from not working and to relax. So he decided to fire up the synths and actually started producing music. He had no idea where to start though. He started to look on the Internet for advice and finally found the Dutch website www.synthforum.nl. A very nice site about synths and a lot of people who use them. On this website he found a lot of information and met some really nice people that helped him on his way. After a few experiments he decided to go for a dream he always had, but thought was never possible. He started to produce his own music and actually started working on his first album. So eventually the bad times lead to something good.

In 2007 Michel met Ron Boots of Groove Unlimited. Groove sells a lot of Electronic Music on their website www.groove.nl, but they also are a record label specializing in Electronic Music. Michel met with Ron Boots in his studio and let him listen to Michel's music. He was enthusiastic right away and Michel signed a record contract with Groove Unlimited. He was ecstatic about this, not about making money, because that is not why Michel makes music, but because they have a big audience. Michel really likes to share his music and loves the idea that people all over the world listen to it.

Michel really loves producing his own music as it takes him to another world every time. And the great thing is he can create this world himself and dream about it. He doesn't try to imitate anyone and produce his own style, but he is surely influenced by the 80's synthesizer music that he listened to so much. Artists Michel really likes and have influenced him: Jean-Michel Jarre, Vangelis, Tangerine Dream, Kitaro, Art of Noise, Kraftwerk, Jan Hammer, Hanz Zimmer, Alan Parson Project, Orbital, Depeche Mode, and the Eurythmics
