If you like Manuel Gottsching', Klaus Schulze, 'Berlin School" music, you will definitely like this outstanding 27 minutes track from Scottish music composer 'Syn'.
Syn is the synthesist David T. Dewdney from Scotland.
He creates and records various forms of Electronic Music : Acid, Techno, Minimal, Experimental, Berlin-School Sequencer and Ambient. His venture into EM began back in early '96, although He was listening to Electronic Music back in the early-mid 80's. His main influences back then were Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream, Vangelis, John Foxx, Ultravox & Yello, until he started listening to and buying releases on the Plus 8 Records label like States of Mind, Cybersonik, F.U.S.E., Speedy J plus various other Techno artists and Richie Hawtin's aliases Plastikman & Circuit Breaker. But also Detroit's Belleville Three consisting of Atkins, May & Saunderson who were also big influences on him.

His first CD release was the album "Soundwave Traveller" (2002) released on German Electronic Music label Spheric Music by Lambert Ringlage, it received good reviews upon its release. He was also voted 5th best newcomer in Electronic Music back in 2002 by the Schallwende EM Magazine, has featured in Various Electronic Music magazines with reviews, and also an interview for popular German Prog-Rock magazine 'Moonhead', and an interview for Future-Retro, USA, who created the FR-777, Revolution and XS Synthesizers.

Slake your thirst on Syn's electronic music of Berlin School, pure sequencer / Mellotron indulgence. There are many layers to the shifting analogue sounds. Restrained electronic percussion is added from time to time providing extra interest just when it is needed.
'Crystal Dreaming' has a very effective organ lead that is played in quite an aggressive percussive way, repeating a rather staccato melody. This forms the backbone for the entire track. A delicate ticking rhythm falls into formation accompanied by some excellent high register splashes then angelic mellotron choir. The wonderful mesmerizing brew seems to become more intense by the moment. Things get even more powerful and awe inspiring as yet another excellent sequence is launched into this fantastic bubbling cauldron of sound. A new lead line meanders over the top. What a superb track!
There is an honesty to this album. I don't think Syn was trying to do anything too clever, instead just enjoying making the sort of music he loves on the sort of retro pieces of kit that seem equally as close to his heart. He does have a natural feel for 70s based sequencer music and to me this comes over more on this album than any other I have heard by him
