Hefner 12 Bar Club - 1997 - Video
PUBLISHED:  Sep 15, 2014
DESCRIPTION:
Hefner existed in a time when people didn't film gigs or rarely photographed them. It was before smart phones and discrete and handheld cameras but also a long time after the initial video boom.

As a consequence, almost no footage exists of us playing live. There's a few clips from some small TV stations but that's it. We, ourselves never thought to document ourselves in this way. It's odd, it wasn't a policy not to, but we just never did it. No footage of us in the studio, none of us on tour.

Fiscally that may have been a mistake but I've come to like it now and I also have a growing dislike of filming at shows. It takes us away from the present, the moment.

However, I had always kind of known about this video without seeing it. It's filmed by Antony's sister and he mentioned it once or twice since we broke up but could never find it.

I post this reluctantly because it actually is a misleading document of what Hefner were like live for most of their life. We were, frenetic, fast and very, very, tight. This does however reflect out beginnings. We treated the 12 Bar Club like our club house and played there almost monthly as part Suzanne Rhatigan's Cushty nights.

The band at this point were casual and laid back. We sat down. We smoked and often worked out the songs on stage.

Looking at us now, we were an odd band. I think we may have recorded Breaking God's Heart at this point. I'm rubbish with dates.

Please take it in context. I hope you like it.
