The Hula Girls "The Suffering Bastard" live at Forbidden Island Tiki Lounge 02/19/11 - Video
PUBLISHED:  Feb 26, 2011
DESCRIPTION:
This is part of the Forbidden Island's ongoing indie band series. Saturday, playing an evening show on February 19, 2011 "the Island" featured a fantastic Hulabilly, rockabilly, swing, jazz, Hawaiian, surf band, The Hula Girls!

These talented guys and girls played to a packed house at Forbidden Island Tiki Lounge, Alameda, CA. on their first northern California Tiki tour and, what a show it was, the audience went crazy over them!

Let's just say I was inspired to do this music video and got put in a hypo-surf-trance by Spike Marble's swing-jazz/rockabilly guitar, and singing, Dominic Tucci's slick and solid percussion work the amazing upright walking bass lines of Christian Kessler and the smooth slide guitar moves of Kevin Bullat.

Also, The Hula Girls have two great Hula dancers who accompany them to keep them in line ; ) Dinah DeRosa and Judy Luck who, did not appear in this rendition of "The Suffering Bastard".

Everybody seems to eat up the "Girls'" hulabilly, rockabilly, swing, jazz, Hawaiian sound style music which made for a wonderful evening, with tropical/Tiki drinks (which the Forbidden Island is known for) brimming all night with many a pleased Tiki patrons!

I had the pleasure of doing a single "run and gun" style HD camera shoot of this fantastic band with NO assistant HD cameraman in site!

The current trend in music videos today is a 24p destroyed organic 16mm or 35mm film "look" which I have painstakingly archived here in this video.

You'll notice this piece has been severely damaged, degraded and filled with tasteful flawed foreign artifacts all done in post to give that organic look and feel. I call this de-massaging the image.

You're going to see scratches, film grain, dust, dirt, mold, frame jitter, gate weave and light leaks to name a few...

This is some of my better camera, lighting, editing of a LIVE music video where all you get is one take and one camera!
