Oil in My Vessel is a traditional song associated with North Carolina fiddler Joe Thompson. The verse from the well-known hymn Amazing Grace was written by slave trader John Newton, who composed it upon his safe landfall after his ship was battered by a violent storm off the coast of Donegal, Ireland in 1748. Stuart Mason: vocals, banjo. Ryan Davidson: bass fiddle. Tony Furtado: slide guitar. Location: Painted Sky Studios, Harmony, CA. Old photos courtesy of the Lomax Collection, U.S. Library of Congress. Arranged and produced by Stuart Mason and made possible with fan fundraising. Video by FirsthandStories.com.
