DESCRIPTION:
"Jill Jack and the Detroit Women's Project - Look Beyond Your Horizon". The creative gift that keeps on giving. That is how Jill Jack defines her artistic relationship with Emmy Award Winning Producer, Keith Famie. Jill and Keith met a few years ago when Keith had approached Jill about using one of her songs in his highly acclaimed documentary "One Soldier's Story." They instantly clicked, with their mutually insatiable fast paced appetite to constantly create. Jack's music is now used in 3 of Keith's documentaries which include a soon to be released documentary on her own life "Live Like There's No Tomorrow - The Jill Jack Story." Their most recent collaboration is for the highly anticipated "Embrace of Aging - A Female Perspective of Growing Old" (EOA).
When Keith originally approached Jill to be a part of EOA, not just musically but be "in" the film, Jill was not exactly, how do you say, embracing anything about the concept. "I was like, how dare he ask me to be a part of this - I am not old! It didn't help that he was asking me as I was approaching my 50th birthday". But at a taping of a sold out show at the Ark in Ann Arbor for Jack's annual birthday bash concert, Famie, in his ever clever way, captured Jack stating after a standing ovation, "now that's how you turn 50!" and he said "so does this mean you are embracing your age?" Done deal!
Jack never knows when a song is going to "hit" her. But while in the shower one day (yes these are where most of her ideas are born) the lyric and melody "look beyond your horizon" was ringing in her head. She worked on the song a bit here and there the next couple of days and realized how perfect the song would be for EOA. She contacted Famie, asking if it was too late to put in the film. He asked her to send the lyrics, loved it and asked her if she could have it done within 3 weeks!
As Jack worked out the remainder of the song, her imagination grew in regard to the recording. Jack realized that not only was she musically at the top of her game at 51, but so many of the female artists of like age in Detroit and surrounding Michigan areas were having the best musical years of their lives. She decided to reach out to them and they all jumped on board! Think Helen Reddy's "I am Woman" but from a stronger, kinder, calmer approach that sends the message that there is still so much to do, be and enjoy even if the music industry would like to you believe that your career is over at 30. "This is a great message to everyone in any walk of life, it is truly universal" states Jack.
The award winning line up Thornetta Davis, Barbara Payton, Karen Newman, Carolyn Striho, Julianne Ankley, Chris McCall, Mary McGuire, Annie Capps, Jamie Sue Seal and Linda Lexy are strong, smart, successful artists who have maintained a musical career over a decade or more! All the while, with some of them raising families, working multiple jobs, surviving cancer, kicking musical butt and taking names!
Jack had recently been reunited with Dale Grisa, Producer/musician pal and asked him to lead the project. Randy Stephenson, President of RMS Studios in Birmingham is lending the studio for the Women's Project as well. This is the first of many projects that Jack and Stephenson will be working on, as Jack was just recently added to the RMS family acting as Artistic Development Consultant. Brian Lord (guitar), Dave Hendrickson (bass), Bryan Reilly (drums/engineer) and Jacob Shives, will also lend their musicianship to the recording. UHY LLP's accounting firm has sponsored the recording session as well. Famie and his crew will be at the RMS studio session on Wednesday, April 9 at 6pm to shoot video for what will ultimately be used in the film and will also be available for purchase on DVD. "
