Unexpectedly, in August, funding for the straw bale roundhouse building project at Karuna (insight design CIC) came to an end.

It was absolutely essential to keep focused on working directly on the house whilst we still had dry building conditions. We had taken a big risk by starting to build in late summer.

But now due to the unforeseen change in our financial situation we have to work on crowd funding in order to raise £14,000.

These funds will enable us to ‘secure the structure’ that has so far been built.

*It is extremely important to make the house habitable over the coming early winter months, alas even in the most basic way.

It is essential that the karuna family are able to move in and keep warm over winter and dry out the earth plaster and straw bales.

“Clay dug out from the foundation is made into earth plaster and applied to the inside walls of the roundhouse-directly above the ground where it came from”.

We have pioneered the Karuna project, by way of ecological landscape design and permaculture lifestyle through Insight Design. Protecting, developing and maintaining our vision.

For many years we worked hard and struggled to gain planning permission for our right to live and work on the land.

To an outsider ,our base, an old, cold, damp showman’s caravan may appear romantic. The reality is, that over the past four winters the conditions within our damp little hovel has seriously affected our health.

All the inspirational hard work and commitment so far this summer has paid off!

In a relatively short space of time much progress has been made.

Clearly some very positive energy has been raising amongst the wonderful diverse community of people involved in making the roundhouse happen,..*whilst they get inspired and educated!

We feel that our commitment towards the project speaks for itself and we hope that you will support it at a critical time in the making of an exemplary building, at an exemplary site.

Friends of Karuna may not know that Merav, co-founder of the project is diagnosed with Huntington’s disease (HD).

This creates an exceptional life circumstance and is of primary concern. It is important to ensure that persons with HD are kept warm within a loving environment based around creative living and eco therapy.

With the help of volunteers Merav helps maintain the inspirational gardens which have been created to share with visitors so they can discover and learn as well as feel good in the moment about the ‘whole experience and concept’ of land use and transformation.

As an eco-demonstration site, the project can only reach its full potential if it has a proper base which serves as an office and home to those who manage the project. The project also demonstrates that affordable low impact solutions are a reality.

Funding is simply an essential means to enable positive growth of this unique educational resource.

This is your big opportunity to help support a genuine grassroots educational project that brings positive social, environmental change.

In return we promise to ensure that the project will continue to grow and serve the community over the coming years.

Please Donate now!

We hope that you will give your full support to a well deserving project.

Together we’ll see it grow, let the currency flow!

A massive 'THANK YOU' to all who have supported the project so far, and NOW!
