Wiest Cam #3 Cantaloupe Island - Video
PUBLISHED:  Apr 29, 2016
DESCRIPTION:
Here is my solo on "Cantaloupe Island" from the new Phröntrange CD "The High Road." Big, big, BIG fun with this messed up rendition of the Herbie classic and these amazing musicians right here in our DU studio in Denver Colorado.

Enjoy!

From the Phröntrange debut "The High Road" here is "The Vinnie Paradox." This one is is an homage to the great Vinnie Colaiuta and his almost metaphysical mastery of the multi-meter multi-verse :) http://www.vinniecolaiuta.com/

In this case, it is a groove I first heard him do with Sting on their masterpiece "Ten Summoner's Tales." Vinnie puts half notes on the ride cymbal and then keeps them constant when a bar of three is thrown in. The result is that the down beats become upbeats.

To paraphrase Arthur C. Clarke: "If the groove is advanced to a sufficient level, it is indistinguishable from magic."

Everyone gets some heat on this one and a great time was had by all.

Enjoy!

Phröntrange is:
