Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Serves Up Amazing Evening But Steve Perry Did Not Sing
In spite of the criticism that the Hall receives for sometimes including acts that are not Rock and/or Roll and snubbing others who do tonight's ceremony was serious Rock n' Roll history with Journey, Yes, ELO, Joan Baez, Pearl Jam, Nil Rodgers and Tupac Shakur being inducted in the class of 2017.

The Electric Light Orchestra was first with a great tribute to Chuck Berry who we lost on March 18th. Appropriately they did "Roll Over Beethoven." which the band also recorded on their second album in 1973. They also performed "Evil Women" and "Mr. Blue Sky" George Harrison's son Dhani gave the speech.

Joan Baez played "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot," squeezing in a small Donald Trump reference. She was then joined by Mary Chapin Carpenter and the Indigo Girls for "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" and a version of Woody Guthrie's "Deportee."

Geddy Lee and Alex Lifefson of Rush inducted Yes who played "Roundabout." with Geddy on bass and then "Owner of a Lonely Heart.” It was great to see the ARW boys, Jon Anderson, Trevor Rabin and Rick Wakeman on stage with Yes.

Like Yes, many were waiting to see what would happen with Journey. Would Steve Perry Sing – He did not. Singer Pat Monahan of Train inducted the band saying Journey changed his life and also changed the trajectory of many lives. Steve Perry gave a passionate speech thanking manager Herbie Herbert for passing his demo tape to Neal Schon and also tipping his hat to current singer Arnel Pineda who had a rough night. Maybe it was because Perry was in the house. - by John Beaudin
