DESCRIPTION:
Superb guitar solo and perfect blues piano/ guitar combination, when Steve Freund and Gene Taylor performed Steve's song 'A Dollar a Mile'. Steve and Gene delivered a fantastic, non-stop set of premium American music, including blues, boogie woogie, and more. They performed at the Lakei venue, in Helmond, The Netherlands on Sunday afternoon, October 6th, 2013.

Guitarist, producer and bandleader Steve Freund, praised by Rolling Stone for his "masterful, no-nonsense guitar work" continues to share his feeling for the blues wherever he can. Steve has appeared on over 34 albums, and produced seven. Steve's third studio album, Lonesome Flight, was released by 9 Below Productions in 2010 and included nine original songs along with four blues classics. He also played on Koko Taylor's Grammy winning Blues Explosion. Steve began his career in Chicago as a second guitar behind Hubert Sumlin, Lee Jackson, Homesick James, Louis Myers, and many others. He spent two years working with Big Walter Horton and Floyd Jones, learning the deep blues and the idiosyncrasies that are part of the art. In 1978, he became Sunnyland Slim's main guitarist, playing just about every gig with the piano legend until the time of his death. Freund became the consummate piano accompanist working with Pinetop Perkins, Jimmy Walker, Henry Gray, Erwin Helfer and many more. He also spent nine years working with harmonica legend James Cotton. Freund's dedication and knowledge of the blues earned him the opportunity to teach accredited courses at Chicago's Columbia College in 1993-94. He moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in the 1990's. He plays regularly at The Saloon in San Francisco, Cafe Van Kleef in Oakland, Armando's in Martinez and also tours nationally and internationally.

About Gene Taylor (extract from website):
Gene Taylor is an extraordinary blues piano-player and singer, born in Los Angeles, California, in 1952. At age 16, he started finding local work with such L.A.-based blues legends as Big Joe Turner, T-Bone Walker, Lowell Fulson, and Pee-Wee Crayton. After working for James Harman during most of 1974, Gene was asked to join Canned Heat. He was a member of this legendary band from November, 1974 until June, 1976. He was based in Canada from 1978-1993 play and record with the Downchild Blues Band, Chris and Ken Whitely, and the one-and-only Ronnie Hawkins (founder of The Band). During this period he also was a member of The Amos Garrett, Doug Sahm, Gene Taylor Band. While working with his good friend James Harman again, in 1981, Gene was asked to join the Blasters. He also toured with the late Rick Nelson, between Blasters engagements. In 1993, Gene joined The Fabulous Thunderbirds. During his almost-14 years with the T-Birds, he toured the world constantly and recorded two studio albums and one live album with the band---plus, a live DVD! Gene continues to record and perform with his friend of over 35 years, 'Icepick James' Harman (13 records and counting!).
