Dartmoor Wassail, Wren Music Choirs - Video
PUBLISHED:  Dec 23, 2014
DESCRIPTION:
Listen to the five Wren Music community choirs sing the Dartmoor Wassail. Arranged by Paul Wilson for a tour of Dartmoor pubs in 1987. Conducted here by Matt Norman at St Stephen's Church, Exeter on Friday 19 December 2014.
Wassail is an old English word meaning 'Good Health' and Wassail songs are sung either to apple orchards to wish for a good harvest and plenty of cider, or on a 'visiting Wassail' where - much like carol singing - you can knock on people's doors and visit different pubs and sing to wish them good health.
