Check out my backstage interview with Third Eye Blind lead singer Stephan Jenkins on the Bamboozle Roadshow 2010

Third Eye Blind is an alternative rock band from San Francisco, California. They were discovered in 1996 when they were invited to open for Oasis. Their performance, as well as the hype around their demo and other works, landed the band a record deal with Elektra Records.

One year later, the band released their self titled debut album and their first single Semi Charmed Life. The album exploded as Semi Charmed Life climbed to #4 on the Billboard Hot 100, as well as remaining #1 on the mainstream rock charts for over 8 weeks.

Third Eye Blind followed that single with 4 more popular songs including Jumper and Hows It Going To Be, both of which went on to become Top 10 singles as well. The album went on to sell over 6 million albums, a remarkable debut for this young band from California.

Third Eye Blind followed that record with another album in 2000 called Blue. And while it didn't do nearly as well as their first record, it went on to sell well over a million copies and featured another hit single for the band, Never Let You Go.

In early 2000, controversy began to swirl as a rift formed between members of the band. The aftermath resulted in lead guitarist Kevin Cadogan being dismissed from Third Eye Blind. He later filed a lawsuit against the band, alleging wrongful termination.

The case was later settled out of court and both parties moved on. But it seemed something about the band had changed for the worse. Over the next few years Third Eye Blind took an extended hiatus, appearing only at rare charity events.

In 2003 Third Eye Blind finally released a new album called Out of the Vein. Sales were poor and the singles did not chart, although much of this could be attributed to their record label Elektra Records being absorbed by Atlantic. Without label support, only one music video was released for the record. Later in May 2004, Atlantic officially dropped Third Eye Blind from the label.

Following this event, the band took another long hiatus and did not release any music until 2009. Finally they released Ursa Major, as well as singles Don't Believe A Word and the new hit Bonfire.

With headlining tours planned throughout 2010, as well as a new album Ursa Minor planned for a 2011 release, Third Eye Blind is working hard to overcome their past and regain their position atop the alternative rock genre.
