Jackie De Shannon – “Glory Wave” (UK Stateside) 1964 - Video
PUBLISHED:  Apr 12, 2016
DESCRIPTION:
Written by Jimmie Haskell and William Dunham

From the 1964 UK Stateside album, “Surf Party” (released in the US on 20th Century)

Gospel/spiritual meets surf, as Jackie De Shannon tells us of her plans to ride the big wave with a song reminiscent of “When The Saints Go Marching In”. “Glory Wave” was sung by Jackie in the film, “Surf Party”, a black and white effort not from the same production team as were the “Beach Party” and related movies.
The film was directed by Maury Dexter and the music participants, in addition to Jackie, included Bobby Vinton, the Astronauts and the Routers.

After three Hot-100 hits in 1963, including the original versions of “Needles And Pins” and “When You Walk In The Room”, Jackie didn’t chart in 1964 but returned the following year with the #7 charting “What The World Needs Now Is Love” (written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David).
