DESCRIPTION:
The moody, experimental 5th effort from the 4-piece lineup of Jason Martin (guitars, vocals, songwriting), Joy Electric keytarist Jeff Cloud (bass), Wayne Everett (drums), and former Adam Again frontman Gene Eugene (keyboards). The guitars are tuned a half-step down, which bastes the record in a gorgeously downbeat overcast-day-at-the-beach feel. After the alienating switch to a softer Europop sound on The Fashion Focus a year prior, this album is a dalliance with a more processed electronic sound. Lush synths take the foreground and push the guitars back in the mix, the distortion remains dialed down, and a couple songs ("Just Try", "The Party") feature vintage drum machines as the sole rhythm track. I read somewhere that this is the last musical contribution Gene Eugene gave to the world before passing away later that year.
