Biography:
Throughout life I've faced many hard decisions, medical issues, backstabbing, and some sudden death but I've truly found the remedy to the pain I feel...God's love. This song I'm presenting is quite literally the testimony of my life, as well as my friend's lives, which is why I hold this song so close to my heart. Since it's incredibly difficult to summarize how I feel about God and how He healed me, I decided to write a descriptive song dedicated to Him. I decided I would use earth's greatest wonders in attempt to describe how God is so magnificent and vast, yet close and intimate. (For example, the chorus lines are: “Like a tidal wave all fear is swept away, like a hurricane you changed everything...”) In order to do so, I read 1 Kings 19: 11-12 and found great material for my song's lyrics, which led me to use this scripture as the backbone of the song. The scripture describes a situation where one of the most powerful men in the Bible is running for his life from an evil queen named Jezebel and ends up hiding in a cave in the mountain named 'Horeb'. (also known as 'mountain of God') It's in this cave at Elija's darkest hour that God literally speaks to him and tells him to walk outside because He is about to show himself to Elijah. As he walked outside the cave he experienced and witnessed incredible early wonders before his own eyes that captured his heart. The verse states:

"Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. "What are you doing here Elijah? I am still with you!".

This verse is directly applicable to situations I was running from in my own life that seemed impossible to escape but in my darkest hour God reminds me who holds the world in their hands and how better things were coming.

My hopes for 'Like A Hurricane' is for listeners to initially feel a sense of sadness once the song is played but later to be uplifted by the hope and message of the song. My hopes for the musical composition of Like A Hurricane is that listeners will feel my story through the song's sound. I'm hoping the 'ballad' sound of the composition will tug at everyone's hearts because I believe everyone has a story of their own that should be heard. I'm also hoping the chorus of my composition will be 'catchy' and leave a noticeable impression because I believe the song will help others push through some difficulties in life down the road. My hopes for the Lyric composition of the song is that listeners will see the powerful message through the words and symbolism. I truly believe that a song's message is just as important as it's soundtrack and brings to life a picture for listeners to envision.
I'm hoping the picture that comes to mind of any audience will be a strong relationship between man and God that develops after conflict and strife. Although this sounds contrary, I believe a healthy dependency can bring about bonding and closeness in relationship. In addition to this, I also hope my lyrics about earth's natural wonders will paint a descriptive picture of how I view God when He heals my heart. I realize not everyone believes in God, but I'm trusting many people will appreciate the song's structure and melody as well as my story that's aligned with it~
