Red Hot Chili Peppers "Soul To Squeeze" guitar lesson. Today we're using a classic pair, the MXR '76 Vintage Dyna Comp and the Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Electric Mistress Flanger. The intro riff in A reveals a very strong attack from Frusciante's guitar tone, so we didn't hold back on the Dyna Comp's Sensitivity amount. The flange tone throughout Soul To Squeeze is very shallow and subtle compared to typical flangers, and if it weren't for the metallic character of the tone, you would mistake it for chorus. The verse follows a Hendrix-y chord progression with little fills in between the F and Csus2 chords as well as Dm and Bbmaj7. The chorus of the song steps back using triads and a constant open e which floats beautifully with the modulated sounds. Enjoy your daily guitar lesson.
