They say the guiding star which rose on the Paektu ridge uses its power of widening the earth and raising the sky. Its starlight likewise works wonders to heaven and earth. They say that once exposed to its ray, everything on earth will revive, youth will spring up and vigor will pour forth; the dead will rise, the elderly will grow young and the ignorant will awaken. Blue water of Sobaek Stream
The Paektusan Secret Camp with the native home of the great leader Kim Jong Il is in the area of Mt. Paektu in the northern part of Korea. Sobaek Stream with crystal-clear water meanders in front of the historic home.
Mysteriously, the Sobaek Stream does not freeze even in severe cold tens of degrees centigrade below zero in winter, but clear water always gurgles.
When the hazy fog wafts over the blue water of the stream, white frostworks are formed on branches of trees around it. The snowscape of the Sobaek Stream decorated with frostworks is fantastic.
The beautiful scene of endless frostworks warmly reminds viewers of the great Kim Jong Il who loved the snowscape of the Sobaek Stream more than others. In winter of a year, he was listening to a famous song evoking sentiments of Mt. Paektu while looking at white snowflakes quietly falling on the windowsill of his office room.
He said: The song reminds me of the snowscape of the Sobaek Stream under the deep snow of Mt. Paektu. Then I hear the voice of my mother who helped me toddle calling my name at the native home in the Paektusan Secret Camp. I really miss my mother who was walking on the snow path, taking me by the wrist, in the courtyard.
The blue water and snowscape of the Sobaek Stream were always preserved deep in the heart of the great man along with the affection towards the first cradle of his life which fostered iron courage and confidence and indomitable will.
It was since the birth of the great Kim Jong Il that the water of the Sobaek Stream was kept warmly in the hearts of the Korean people. When he was born in the native home of the Paektusan Secret Camp on February 16, Juche 31 or 1942, the fighters hugged each other and voiced their excitement. And they wrote slogans on trees in the forest around the stream, declaring the birth of the Paektu Shining Star.
Later the great leader President Kim ll Sung impressively wrote about the blue water of the Sobaek Stream in the immortal paean dedicated to Kim Jong Il on his 50th birth anniversary.

Jong Il Peak soars high above Mt. Paektu,
Where the limpid Sobaek meanders.
Can it be the Shining Star´s 50th birthday already?
Admired by all for his power of pen and sword
Combined with his loyal and filial mind,
And unanimous praise and cheers shake heaven and earth.

The paean written by President Kim Il Sung was the warm praise of the immortal history of the great Kim Jong Il, son of Mt. Paektu.
The life of Kim Jong Il was that of a great man who glorified Korea and demonstrated dignity of the people.
Respected Marshal Kim Jong Un visited the revolutionary battle sites in the area of Mt. Paektu in November Juche 102 or 2013 and said his resolution and will become firmer to accomplish the revolutionary cause of Juche pioneered in Mt. Paektu.
The high spirit of the Korean army and people who are building a prosperous nation under the leadership of respected Kim Jong Un will be demonstrated more fully along with the flow of the Sobaek Stream. (Voice of Korea, February 2015)
