What's up guys. One of my favorite rappers, Crooked I, or KXNGCROOKED , is teaming up with sway calloway and SMH RECORDS to create a rap contest, sort of like american idol but with rap. I've been waiting for something like this for years. I am truly humbled by Crooked for giving back to the community even though his lyrcism alone was enough. I am grateful for this opportunity and even if I don't win, i support all my other fellow emcees in the same shoes. People don't understand rap like we do. If you can rap, then you have to rap. Even if you don't want to. You just have to do it. People look at us funny and act like we are low lives n don't understand why we would waste our time on such a thing. They don't realize what it's like to be addicted to creating stories with rhythm and sharing it through a mic. Hip Hop was born and created in black culture, so when a white person starts rhyming, we are either called posers/ eminem wannabes or even worse we are called traitors by other white people. One Shot is a chance for people of all different color and ethnicity to spit on the mic and show their lyrical skill with no discrimination. To all fellow emcees competing, no matter what color, religion or socioeconomic status--you're family to me. We all have one thing that holds us together, and that's hiphop. This is our one shot. While Jamar admits that Eminem is nice when it comes to the technical aspects of being an MC, he still sees him as a white artist profiting from a black art form. He goes on to say that he doesn't feel Eminem as an artist and that he can't relate to the outlandish things Em says on wax.
