Coma was a Progressive Avant Jazz/rock group from Denmark. Coma was derived from an Avant-garde jazz Group from Frederikshavn in 1971 and the skagen Group Ramasjang. Until 1972 one of the band members was the saxophonist Uffe Markussen. Many other musicians with relation to groups from Copenhagen has played in or with Coma. A solid core in Coma has since 1973 been Jakob Mygind, Klaus Thrane, Viggo Bertelsen and Leif Christensen. Flemming Friberg and Jakob Mygind were both there when the band was founded. The Group has participated in various local political activities in Frederikshavn. Coma has occasionally used lightshows, choirs, mimics and other musicians including classical musicians. Coma used classical musicians when they performed "PsyCOMAtiske udladninger over Ålborgsumpen", it could be heard the 18/12-1977 in the program "Nordiske improvisationer" (a Radio program). Coma made 3 albums, "Financial Tycoon" released in 1977, "Amoc" released in 1980 and "Love and Madness - it's all the same" released in 1986.
Financial Tycoon is in my opinion one of the best danish records of all time containing some fantastic music. In an interview with Coma from 1978 they say that they love Frank Zappa, King Crimson, John Coltrane and Jimi Hendrix, which perfectly describes how their music sounds. Their music do sound a lot like a mix of Frank Zappa, King Crimson, with Jimi Hendrix guitar added.
Here is a link to the very interesting interview with Coma (It's in danish though)
