Sophia

Once upon a time in year 1985 when bad hairstyle,disco and evil furniture design ruled the world, my poor mommy had a baby girl…
After the holly torture of orthodox baptize the baby girl was given the name ‘Sophia’ and started her insignificant life in Chania,Crete.
And yet, after managing to gain a few inches of height ,surviving greek school, adolescence and braces ;after changing numerous hair colours ,reading a few books ,learning some languages blah blah…realized that all she wanted to do in life is playing music(hurray!)…and now the ridiculous 3rd person thing ends.
IIIII started singing in a metal band called ‘frail entity’ in 16(by manipulating the audience’s ears I think…).I moved to Athens to study history of theatre(boring) but I ended up studying music with various teachers (I owe my throat to my vocal coach and mentor Natasa Flouri)and running around to attend music seminars on jazz and world music.I also studied classical flute for a couple of years(but then again deep down all i want to be is a drummer-preferably in a hardcore band!). Above all ,I’m lucky enough to have a bunch of utterly crazy friends and fellow musicians with whom I took place in all kinds of music projects as a vocalist:trip-hop,experimental stuff,dangerously free improvisations,jazz, cutting edge metal, electro ,hip-hop,latin,blues,traditional music, garage rock n' roll poser music (?),8-hour-favourite-greek-songs marathons and so on.
Currently I'm a member of the band Night On Earth and the female choir 'Sanades'.I write lyrics, music, sing and improvise a lot for the above.I've also worked in theatre as a musician and performer.
I still haven't got a clue about what kind of 'sound' or 'style' I want to follow in music but I would prefer to skip the stupid habit of categorizing art. My goal as a singer is to use my voice as a musical instrument and not just in way so as to entertain or soothe the audience. I'm deeply interested in exploring the abilities of the human voice.It's definitely an endless trip.
