David Lang's "man made," So Percussion with the LA Phil - Video
PUBLISHED:  Oct 29, 2014
DESCRIPTION:
On October 2nd, 2014, So Percussion and the LA Philharmonic with Gustavo Dudamel conducting premiered David Lang's "man made," a concerto for percussion quartet and orchestra.

The LA Phil graciously allowed us to capture some rehearsal footage from the day of the premiere at Disney Concert Hall.

"man made" is in four parts. The soloists perform mostly on found and homemade instruments: twigs, wine bottles, steel pipes, and trash cans. The orchestra engages in a dialogue with the found instruments, sometimes complementing and sometimes overwhelming them.

"man made" was commissioned by the LA Phil and the BBC Symphony. The performance we're rehearsing for is the US Premiere. The world premiere was at the Barbican Centre in London with the BBC Symphony in 2013.

The LA Times had a great review/wrap up of the premiere: http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/arts/la-et-cm-la-phil-opening-review-20141004-column.html
