At first glance, Slow Car Crash's Omarr Escoffie' is your typical tattooed, soul patch-wearing musician. But watch him perform and you'll see there's nothing typical about his music.
Born in Chicago, Escoffie' always felt music was his creative and positive outlet, especially during hard times. In the 20 years that he has been playing, he's lived in big cities and small towns; has performed up and down the West Coast and toured nationally from Los Angeles to Philadelphia. Internationally Escoffie' has performed in Costa Rica, France, Spain, England, and Ireland.
Escoffie' writes heartfelt songs about complex topics—love, life, friends. He writes about broken hearts, hope and new beginnings. But it's only when you hear his voice sing the words to his music, that you can fully understand where it all comes from. It's soothing, thrilling, soulful.
Slow Car Crash's first CD, "Ambivalence," was released in 1999—a minimalistic, electronica-meets-rock album. The road would never be the same for Escoffie'.
That smoldering creative flame led him to release "Come Out and Play Tonight" in 2001 and the EP "Hope on the Other Side" in 2003. "Hope on the Other Side" marked a musical evolution in his artistry, featuring a live band, acoustic guitars, soul, jazz and rock, and a lyrical growth marked by social awareness. In that same year, Escoffie' played bass guitar for Adam Kowalczyk of LIVE, which released "Looking Up From the Ground."
Touring around the country brought different perspectives and new inspiration for the next album—"The Trip We Planned" (2006). The songs in the CD revealed Escoffie's genuine journey musically and lyrically.
Alexander Berberich's indie film "Bonne Année" was released in April 2008 and featured Slow Car Crash's "Swan Song" and "The Message." The film was included in the prestigious Raindance Film Festival in London.
Before bringing his music from Los Angeles to Austin, Texas, Escoffie' released "Intermission," a 7-song collection of full band and solo acoustic songs. With "Intermission" being out, Escoffie' is now ready to conquer new places and bring more soul to the South.
