thatwasthen is a five-piece rock band from Los Angeles, California. High school friends Brenton Sinay and Nate Longdon started as a duo but quickly sought out other musicians whose passion matched their own. Added to Brent’s powerful voice and songwriting sensibilities and Nate’s silky- smooth harmonies were Nick Papageorge’s ornate guitar riffs, Benny Dacks’ dextrously delivered bass lines, and Chris Bridge’s energetic virtuosity on the drums. They forged their new group in the crucible of the rock clubs of LA and the product was rock and roll showmanship at its finest.
With influences from the canon of deities like Hendrix and Zeppelin, to more modern acts like the Foo Fighters and Incubus, thatwasthen combines a love for soul- shaking rock and blues with a masterfully modern sensibility. Their lyrics move seamlessly from literary reference to the unpretentious rock vernacular, but always with cleverly crafted imagery or a strategic tug at your heartstrings. The overall effect is lightning in a can-- a thousand kilowatts of raw energy packaged in a flawless live show.
thatwasthen’s name reflects the passage of time, a major theme in the story of a band whose winding journey keeps them inexorably moving toward rock ‘n’ roll enlightenment. From creating the perfect lineup to winning best band at UCLA’s Spring Sing to recording their first full- length album, the boys of thatwasthen keep evolving. The eagerly awaited self- titled album explores new depths for the group while showcasing the breadth of tricks they’ve always had up their sleeves.
