Darryl Way's new album 'Destinations 2' out May 28th on Spirit of Unicorn Records, distributed by Cherry Red.
This video is based on a warm up performance given by Naomi Harvey soprano, Stephen Crook tenor, The South West Sinfonietta led by myself and conducted by Derek Kitt, with the chorus of Opera South West in Kingsbridge, prior to its official premiere at the Guildhall in Plymouth.
Inspired by the dramatic coastline of South Devon and in particular, Thurlestone Rock, the piece is loosely based on the myth of the Sirens found in Homer's Odyssey. In part II, "The Rapture of the Deep", the work focuses on the frailty of human nature when confronted with temptation and the resolve and determination required to overcome it.
Words and music, Darryl Way.
