BOSS LOOP, Canada - Shai Locke / Riding Light - Video
PUBLISHED:  Oct 11, 2012
DESCRIPTION:
This is my entry to the Boss Loop Station World Championship Number 3.

The song is an original composition titled "Riding Light" and it's dedicated to the Boss RC-300. Consider it a thank you to Roland for allowing me to travel overseas and play some face melting funk with a keyboardist/vocalist, a Turntablist, my drum machine, 8-string guitar and of course the RC-300. It allowed to us to lighten the load of logistics taking flights and booking hotels with only a three piece band, where I could be the entire rhythm section - without losing any of the funk, the slickness and the live feel.

In this video, I'm using a Wes Lambe 8-string, with 3 bass strings, and 5 guitar strings (split output of course). I use a Mark Bass amp and Eventide pedals for the bass side, and I use a Pod HD 500 (soon to be replaced with a Boss GT-100 - if I manage to advance a few levels in this competition) for the guitar side.

I'm using an MPC 5000 for the drums, and a Roland FC-300 to trigger the occasional cymbal stab, and control some of the effects on the RC-300. When I normally play live, the FC 300 and the RC-300 act as the brains of the operation, setting tempos for all effects and drum loops, and controlling said drum loops, as well as adding in fills played with my feet.

I recorded this video in HD with a panasonic camcorder - widescreen to get the whole shot with the pedals (tight angles in my basement) and audio straight in to the computer from the left and right outputs of the RC-300. I blended the direct recording and the camera recording for ambiance. No other effects or editing was done. This is %100 live - as is - with it's flaws.
