SheKillsMe is a band from the prairies, made up of members from Moose Jaw and Regina. We hope to become an integral part of the healthy and well-respected Western Canadian music community through our creativity and hard work.
SheKillsMe formed in 2001, when guitarists Eric Oleson and Sean Malcolm dissolved their old punk band Good Enough. They brought on Moose Jaw’s Cassie Ozog (formerly of Madman) on vocals, solidifying a new creative core. After a few lineup changes SheKillsMe has come to its present incarnation, including former Madman drummer Travis Wock and newest member Conrad Morgan on bass, whose temporary slot quickly became permanent thanks to his creative and personal chemistry with everyone in the band.
We have had the opportunity to play shows across Western Canada with bands such as Comeback Kid, Propagandhi, Blind Witness, Protest the Hero, The Holly Springs Disaster, Sick City and Mariana’s Trench. Despite sounding different than many of the bands we’ve opened for, we have always been welcomed and embraced by their crowds, winning us new fans more often than not. With two EPs released and successful merchandise sales, we look forward to recording our debut full-length album and touring across Canada to support it.
Though we come from the prairies, and have been inspired by the bands around us, our influences are broad and diverse. We can be described as a heavy rock band with passionate, personal female vocals, but looking to the future we hope to defy categorization and make music that means something to a wide variety of people.
Early influences and band favourites include Propagandhi, Thrice, AFI, Rise Against, New Found Glory, Fall Out Boy, and Jimmy Eat World. But as new members have been added to our band, so too have their influences. This has further enriched our overall sound and our songwriting process to allow for fresh ideas. The diversity of our newest members’ musical styles and interests is helping us to improve and strengthen our songs. As we grow as a band we find a desire to expand on our punk-rock roots and evolve our sound and our vision, incorporating keyboards, acoustic guitars, and more dynamic songs.
SheKillsMe is not just comprised of band mates, but also roommates, soul mates, new friends, old friends, and best friends. SheKillsMe isn’t just a band to us; it’s an encompassing part of our lives, and we hope to make it as special to our listeners as it is to us.
