Lyrics:

Verse 1

You moved on through the life laid out for you
Past every obstacle that stood in your way
You strove to overcome it, now you've reached your mountain's summit
To welcome in the end of the day
And after all life threw at you, your mind was only strengthened
Growing ever older but still gloriously descending
You didn't let death catch you, watching shadows as they lengthened
Or looking back over your shoulder though you knew your life was ending

So on some cold December night, as you watch your sun setting
Though you've had your share of suffering and trial
You made it through the fight, and I know you won't look back regretting
I hope you will remember with a smile

1st Chorus

All the good times we used to spend, forget the hardship and the toil
Knowing you'll always have a place in all those hearts you touched upon
May you go happy to the end, and shuffle off your mortal coil
Knowing I won't forget your face, your memory will live on

Verse 2

You've had a good innings, and your passion for living
Banished any emptiness from your resolute mind
Never thought of your own winnings, but unselfishly giving
Trying to spread your happiness to the family you would leave behind
And even with death nearing, there was no fear in your eyes and
You made the most of your last days and closed out your story
But now your sun's disappearing behind the horizon
You'll watch the final rays blaze themselves out in glory

Before the onset of the dark, when the cold will take control
You'll look back for the last time and you'll sink into the night
But you've left your mark and your loss will leave a hole
In the hearts of those you remember as you head towards the light

2nd chorus

And the good times we used to spend, forget the hardship and the toil
Knowing you'll always have a place in all those hearts you touched upon
May you go happy to the end, and shuffle off your mortal coil
Knowing I won't forget your face, your memory will live on

But shadows lengthen and they fall, and the night will soon arrive
Death will come for us all so enjoy yourself while you're alive
So you'll look down from heaven one day, knowing that you tried your best
You can look back smiling and say that you've earned your rest

Verse 3

But now the night is falling and heaven is calling
You'll hear the choirs and the bells chime
The angelic voices as heaven rejoices
To welcome you home for the final time
Soon it will be time to embark, this voyage will be your last
I know you will be sorely missed and so I'll beg that you will never
Disappear into the dark, but all too soon good things are past
And so you'll fade into the mist and be lost to us forever

'Cause now the time's come to depart, your journey's coming to an end
The candle will wane and the flame will burn down to an ember
But you'll live on in each heart as a loved one and a friend
Time will soothe the pain but I will always remember...

3rd chorus

The good times we used to spend, forget the hardship and the toil
Knowing you'll always have a place in all those hearts you touched upon
May you go happy to the end, and shuffle off your mortal coil
Knowing I won't forget your face, your memory will live on
But shadows lengthen and they fall, and the night will soon arrive
Death will come for us all so enjoy yourself while you're alive
So you'll look down from heaven one day, knowing that you tried your best
You can look back smiling and say that you've earned your rest
