Featuring the Depostion painting by
Rogier van der Weyden (1399 or 1400 -- 18 June 1464) an Early Flemish ( Belgian Dutch) painter.

The Blessed Virgin Mary grants seven graces to the souls who honour her daily by
saying seven Hail Mary's and meditating on her tears and dolors (sorrows).
The devotion was passed on by St. Bridget.
The seven special graces are: 1) Our Blessed Mother will grant peace to their families. 2) They will be enlightened about the divine mysteries. 3) Our Heavenly Mother will console them in their pains and she will accompany them in their work. 4) She will give them as much as they ask for as long as it does not oppose the perfect will of her Divine Son or the sanctification of the soul. 5) Our Blessed Mother will defend them in their spiritual battles with the infernal enemy and she will protect them at every instant of their lives. 6) She will visibly help them at the moment of their death. They will see the face of their mother. 7) She has obtained this grace from her Son, that those who propagate this devotion to her tears and dolors (sorrows), will be taken directly from this earthly life to eternal happiness since all their sins will be forgiven. She and her Son will be their eternal consolation and joy.

The seven sorrows of Our Blessed Mother are:

1) The prophecy of Simeon;
2) The flight into Egypt;
3) The loss of the Child Jesus in the temple;
4) The meeting of Jesus and Mary on the Way of the Cross;
5) The Crucifixion;
6) The taking down of the Body of Jesus from the Cross;
7) The burial of Jesus.

Meditation:
Jesus body is wrapped in a cloth, and he is buried quickly and without ceremony in a borrowed sinners' tomb. His sweet mournful mother bids farewell to the precious body of her son ~ all bloodied and torn for us. She gently kisses his wounded hands and lays them back over his body. She takes her place with the other women as they roll the heavy stone back over the entrance to the tomb.
She watches as the stone falls in place with a final great thud. There are no birds singing, the world is silent. And silently, one by one they slowly, tearfully depart.
The pain in her soul is so great that surely if not for the grace of God, she would have died of grief a thousand times over that day. O Poor Sweet Holy Mother!
The beloved apostle St. John urges the Blessed Virgin Mary to leave with him ~ but she is frozen to the spot, unable to move. Placing his arm gently around her shoulders ~ choking back the tears St. John speaks softly the word,
"Mother."
The Blessed Virgin Mary raising her tearful eyes to meet John's realizes her duty towards her beloved Son Jesus now lies with his children ~ begotten at his death. Mary then became for us the adopted mother of us all. Jesus' final gift to us before his dying breath.
Slowly the beloved apostle of her Divine Son leads the stricken mother away from the scene to his home.
