Karl Beger's Improvisers Orchestra: October 4, 2013 @ El Taller - Video
PUBLISHED:  Oct 13, 2013
DESCRIPTION:
On Friday, October, 2013 at El Taller, 2710 Broadway (corner of W 104th St), Karl Berger's Improvisers Orchestra performed its 61st appearance in New York City. El Taller provides an informal, generous, almost party-like experience.

Kearl Berger's Orchestra of 25+ professional string, horn, and percussion soloists continues to turn improvisational ideas developed in the 7:30 pm open workshop/rehearsal into a fully formed 9 pm performance. Karl introduces an exciting approach and experience of blending and harmonizing improvised sounds and rhythms in constantly shifting insturmentations.

Conducted in Karl's inimitable style, developed at the legendary Creative Music Studio, this orchestra of extraordinary improvisers explores original compositions by Karl Berger as well as melodies from the world's folk traditions, and themes written by visionaries such as Don Cherry or Ornette Coleman, as well as musical ideas that arise spontaneously in solo/duotrio contributions by the players. One of the orchestra's trademarks is Ingrid Sertso's uncanny vocalizations and poetry.

The soloists with KBIO include Warren Smith, John Pietaro, Nicolas Letman, Tomas Ulrich, Sana Nagano, Concetta Abbate, Yukari Watanabe, Nick Gianni, Brian Groder, Matt Lavelle, Westbrook Johnson, Yasuno Katsuki, Thomas Workman, Bohdan Hilash, Bill Ylitalo, Michael Lytle, Mercedes Figueras, Savid Schnug, Patrick Brennan, James Brendon Lewis, Harvey Valdes, Mike Gassman, John Ehlis, and Ingrid Sertso.
