The aim of the Tacumba project (http://tacumbasonjarocho.wix.com/tacumbasonjarocho, http://www.facebook.com/tacumbasonyconfusiones and https://soundcloud.com/tacumba-son-jarocho-afro-confusiones) is to promote an appreciation of the rich traditions that comprise Son Jarocho music. The singing, the harmony of the requinto, the melodies of both the jaranas and the leona bunburona, and the foot-stamping or tap-dancing (comparable to Irish Sean Nos dancing) create a rich tapestry through which the group can not only fuse the various diverse rhythms that form the basic building blocks of jarocho music but also draw influences from other musical styles. Having said that, while the group incorporate influences from non-traditional, and indeed modern, sources in fandango-style sessions, the Tacumba Son Jarocho project primarily concerns itself with up-holding the ancient pillars of the San Jarocho tradition.

Since their formation in 2006 by Rodolfo "Rodo" Floselo García Montiel (leona bunburona and vocals) and Marco Antonio Hernández (requinto jarocho, jarana and vocals), Tacumba Son Jarocho have build up a highly-impressive CV, operating out of their base in San Cristóbal de las Casas in the state of Chiapas. In addition to performing at prestigious musical festivals throughout Mexico, including the National Festival of Art and Culture in both 2008 and 2010, Tacumba Son Jarocho have also been invited to perform at celebrations of both specifically Mexican and World Music Festivals in both Spain and France in recent years.

The group came to Ireland for a short tour from September 5th to September 22nd, with the highlight of their visit being the Clifden celebration of the San Patricio battalion, and also including dates in Galway and Clifden. A skilled instrument maker, Marco Antonio Hernández also brought a selection of jaranas which could be purchased at the gigs.
