Sam Pluta: Machine Language (2012)
Commissioned by and written for percussionist Ian Antonio and premiered by TimeTable Percussion and Wet Ink Ensemble in 2012, Sam Pluta’s Machine Language superimposes a largely improvisational, though fully notated, solo percussion part atop algorithmic, switch-like structures. Pluta writes, “The piece presents a sequence of sonic walls, each explored for a short period. Though seemingly unrelated, these monoliths have subtle similarities, revealing an intertwined helix of materials.”
