José Navarrete - Post-Doomsday Demo - Video
PUBLISHED:  May 08, 2014
DESCRIPTION:
Remember that a while back I uploaded a demo called Doomsday Demo? Well, this is the follow-up. This demo only has four songs, but two of them are quite long and despite having two songs less than the other demo, this demo is two minutes longer (yay for all the coincidences with the number two!). This time I decided to record the songs in Spanish, but I can give some insight for you to know what the songs are about.

In risk of causing certain controversy, the picture used during Arrebatador de Vida (the fourth song) is an actual picture of my grandfather two days before passing away. I'll explain later why I put that picture there.

I recorded this demo without any amplifier (mostly because I didn't have one at the time) except for World of Lies, which the instrumental part is from the Doomsday Demo sessions and it was recorded with an Ibanez TB15. I used the Slayer2 VST along Adobe Audition's Guitar Suite for the guitars, some Hard Limiting and the 30-band EQ from Audition for the bass and EZDrummer Drumkit from Hell with a few samples for the drums. The vocals were recorded with a PC mic. The guitars for Darkness were recorded using a Behringer X V-amp instead of Slayer2. All guitars, basses, vocals and the triangle in Darkness performed by me, except the second guitar solo from World of Lies, which was performed by Betty Saeger.

Tracklist:
00:00 El Precio de la Apariencia (The Price of Appearance)
03:29 Oscuridad (Darkness)
12:37 Mundo de Mentiras (World of Lies)
17:38 Arrebatador de Vida (Life Ravager)

I hope you enjoy my work, and if you do, please spread!

Now, about the songs:
· The Price of Appearance: The song lyrics deal with the fact that many people/enterprises overlook the abilities of people because of their appearance, taking into account the fact that you're not wearing the proper outfit or your haircut is not appropiate over the fact that you're proficient at the job you want to perform
· Darkness: Originally titled In the Dark, this song is a desperate cry at a potential lover to rescue the guy on the song from his own misery. Needless to say, a relationship like that wouldn't work, you shouldn't rely on other people to cover your inner struggles, you shouldn't use another person as a escape from reality. Some harmonies were recorded by me playing right-handed!
· World of Lies: This song was the first one I recorded after releasing Doomsday Demo and it's kinda of an outtake from that one, except that the lyrics were written and recorded at the same time the lyrics for the other songs from this demo were written and recorded. This song is the most heartfelt song I've ever sang. It was all done in pretty much one take and it got so much hate and anger in it that I don't believe I could do another version with "better" singing or an English version. I wrote the lyrics after my girlfriend threw all we had into oblivion and went out with another guy, realizing that everything she said to me, every promise, every loving word, everything was an illusion and a lie and that's exactly what I sing about in this song. Some months after recording this song I came back with her (what a fool I am) and in a moment of brutal honesty she actually told me that she was with me because she felt weak, but because she didn't feel weak anymore, she felt she didn't need me any longer. That was the definite end to me. You can't say that to another person. You just can't.
· Life Ravager: This is a 10 minute sort of progressive kinda thing, lots of odd signatures and mood changes. This song deals with the effects of cancer on a person, weakening that person up to the point of killing him/her. I wrote this song trying to reflect what I could perceive from my grandfather's mind. He died of stomach cancer after a six month struggle. Most of the times I've listened to this song I've cried, it's just too strong for me. The 12-string guitar tracks at the end of this song were recorded minutes before he passed away. I literally finished recording the tracks and my brother-in-law came to my room to tell me to go to his room to say goodbye. It was terrible. Two days before passing away, one of my sisters took a picture of him to send it to my brother who was far away, that's the picture I used for this video.
