found this guys layout at HOTFreeLayouts.comRoyal and Promise are amongst the most talented rap artists coming from the streets of Southside Jamaica Queens. They started rapping in 1999 with their long time friend Ques-Uno. At that time they went by the names Mel Murda (Royal) and Pete Murda (Promise). The trio called themselves Killa Youth and used to record themselves from a karaoke machine. Not satisfied with their rap names, Mel Murda, feeling that he will be highly recognized and praised in this game, changed his name to Royal H, H standing for Highness. Pete Murda changed his name to Pete Promise, Promise standing for Produces Rhymes Off My Intellect Surroundings, and Experience. Ques-Uno then linked up with another neighborhood rapper and formed The Sutta Boyz. That is when the rap group R.A.P (Royal and Promise) was formed.

R.A.P was hard at work, in search of being recognized greatly. It started with another neighborhood friend Ali Vegas, who was known for his song “The Specialist” which was on the “In Too Deep” movie soundtrack, his deal with Trak Masters/Colombia Records in 2000, and his later deal with Tommy Mattola’s label Casablanca Records/Universal Records. He saw the hunger in Royal and Promise and took them under his wing under Council Recordings. But unfortunate events always seem to occur when you are headed towards greatness.

In July 2003, Promise survived a near fatal car accident. He later was arrested for gun possession in April 2004. With the help of his lawyers, he got off with only probation. This is when R.A.P felt they had to take rap seriously. With influences like The Notorious B.I.G, Tupac, Jay-Z, Nas, Joe Budden & Redman, they sharpened their skills and took their verses to the studio.

They were dealing with Ali Vegas since 1999. In 2004 they signed a 1 year management contract with Building Blocks Mgmt., which another neighborhood friend, DJ Hpnotiq, was being managed by as well. They put out a mixtape in 2005 titled “The Definition of R.A.P” which he hosted.

R.A.P didn’t feel that they were getting the promotion that they needed so they left Ali Vegas and when their contract with Building Blocks Mgmt. expired, they started doing things themselves. No longer dealing with Ali Vegas, Royal and Promise were on their grind, but with every come up there is a downfall. Now a father, Royal had been shot in the streets of Brooklyn where he was now living. Luckily, it was a shot to the leg and nothing fatal. He took that for what it was and kept moving, not letting anything prevent him from reaching his goal.

DJ Hpnotiq ran into them in 2006 and they let him know that they were no longer with “The Council”. DJ Hpnotiq felt that it would be a waste of talent if R.A.P didn’t get a deal, so he chose to assist in promoting them, putting them on his mixtapes and hosting another one of their’s as well. Along with Lay and Blu, they put together “The R.A.P Movement”. With that one mixtape they locked their neighborhood down. With followers totaling over 100 people representing them, their buzz was growing. Not long after the mixtape dropped they were getting phone calls from all over. One of those calls came from Fredro Starr from the rap group Onyx. He too was feeling their material and was eager to deal with them.

With artists such as Onyx, The Lost Boyz, and the man controlling the game right now, 50 Cent, there is no doubt that Southside Jamaica Queens is a breeding ground for artists. With their whole neighborhood backing them, R.A.P is set for forward movement. They are more than just rappers, they are high caliber artists, and they are ready to take their place in the rap industry.
