This album is dedicated in loving thought and memory to Lincoln Valentine “Style” Scott. Born on the 29th of April 1956 in Chapleton, Clarendon, Style started playing drums in the early 1970s, and went on to record for many of Jamaica's top producers after his band, Roots Radics, had formed in 1978. Style, Errol “Flabba” Holt (bass), and Eric “Binghi Bunny” Lamont (guitar) , as the rhythm core of the Roots Radics, went on to become one of the most famous Jamaican Reggae recording and touring bands of all time.
The Roots Radics became the house band at Channel One, then the leading recording studio in Kingston. Sly Dunbar, reggae drummer extraordinaire, had crafted the early Channel One sound together with long-time partner, bassist Robbie Shakespeare. Style had studied Sly’s technique with admiration and soon developed a feel that was his own. The Roots Radics catalog from the Channel One years is among the most recognizable in the history of Jamaican music. Style Scott crafted a singular creative and daring approach to executing drum patterns. The rub-a-dub style associated with the Roots Radics' Channel One sound defines the dancehall era during the international growth of Jamaican music.

During his prolific career, Style recorded some of the most important reggae riddims and records of all time. Some of our favorite albums featuring Style's drumming include The Viceroys “We Must Unite”, Bunny Wailer “Rootsman Skanking”, Israel Vibration, “Why You So Craven, Culture “Culture In Culture”, Gregory Isaacs “Night Nurse”, The Itals “Brutal Out Deh”, and Yellowman “Zungguzungguguzungguzeng”.

All the riddims on "Dub in Style" were tracked in one day spent at Tuff Gong Recording in Kingston, Jamaica, in 2014. Zion I Kings felt so honored to work with one of our musical heroes. Some of these tracks appear originally on releases from Midnite-I Grade, Akae Beka, Pressure, Ziggi Recado, Jahdan Blakkamoore, and Glen Washington. This set is mixed in dub fashion by ZIK mainstays; Tippy I, Moon Bain and Jah David. I and I are ever thankful for Style’s influence on Zion I Kings and the everlasting inspiration that lives on through his recordings. Lustre Kings Productions is honored to present “Dub In Style”, to the world!
